A wonderful, heavily embroidered, large size shawl from Canton, China made for the European market.
This shawl is one of the best examples of its kind that we’ve had in our collection.
On a black silk ground, huge luscious lipstick pink peonies have been expertly hand embroidered, interspersed with smaller blooms in peaches and blues with delicate, pale eau-de-nil foliage.
The shawl is finished with a long hand knitted silk fringe. Professionally made around 1900 in one of the better workshops around Canton in China that were producing shawls of this type for the fashionable European market.
In excellent condition for its age.
