Fine Toile de Jouey Panel Indigo Blue and White: Early C19th France
From France first half of the 19th century come this very fine good sized panel of Toile de jouey.
Printed in indigo blue onto an off white/cream ground it depicts France’s discovery of far flung exotic lands, included are 17th/18th sailing ships, men in 18th century costume, pastoral scenes, castles, and Louis XV1 sitting under an oak tree with a lion at his feet receiving exotic peoples.
As with a lot of Toiles it serves as a historical document, greatly romanticised but based on a historical fact and of great interest.
It is in very good antique condition with some overall fading and a patina of age, but we feel this is not detrimental to the panel as a whole.
This panel would be greatly enhanced by being stretched and mounted, a service which we are very pleased to offer form our dedicated studios in Gloucestershire. We can also offer a delivery service to London.
