Antique Large Fine Silk Wallhanging with Birds and Butterlies Landscape: C1900/10 China

This is probably the best of its kind that I have had in the studio, dating from around 1900 and from China, probably destined for export to Europe.

This beautiful large size hanging is made from a deep magenta pink silk satin with very fine museum worthy silk embroidery.

Worked mainly in greens it shows a small bamboo grove with a central depiction of a peacock, a crane. There is a myriad of butterflies and whilst perched on the top of the bamboo sweet little plump birds.

Each bird, butterfly, insect and plant is carefully observed and has subtle differences in colour and pattern which makes this heirloom wallhanging something you would never tire of looking at.

The bamboo and birds are surrounded by a honeysuckle frame which is interspersed by butterflies, again, each and every one different from each other.

135 x 238cm

Condition:
In good antique condition with signs of wear and splits to silk ‘frame’, an overall patina of age but otherwise in excellent antique condition.
