A wonderful, large size hanging dating from the 19th century Meji period, and made in Japan.
Dripping with wisteria, carnations and with decorative butterflies and a bird at the base every inch of this wallhanging has something of interest to draw the eye.
The embroidery is worked in silks with areas of stumpwork (padding)and dates from the early 19th century. At some point in its journey and probably because the ground silk perished, the embroidery has been painstakingly cut out and reapplied to a gorgeous pale primrose colour silk satin.

Condition:
In good antique condition with some rubs and losses to the surface of the embroidery. Ground silk is in good and strong condition, quite grubby on the reverse.
