Folk Costume Bonnet with Ottoman Embroidery: C19th Greek Islands
From the Greek Islands C19th a girls folk costume bonnet or head covering .
Hand embroidered in silks onto a hand woven linen ground, using traditional patterns and motifs, this may have been made up from an earlier textile as things were commonly recycled.
The upper half of the bonnet is lined in a plain hand woven linen, and the bottom of the bonnet is finished with a courser weave band stitched with large amateur terracotta silk stitches.
In overall good antique condition with some losses and rubs to silk embroidery, a dark brown rust stain to the lower right of the embroidery,and an overall patina of age as to be expected in an antique textile of this antiquity.
