Dating from the 1920s a fine hand painted and resist dyed silk ‘Pongee’ shawl with an abundance of flowers and butterflies and finished long hand knotted silk fringe.
In a gorgeous colour palette and with a decorative, pretty design this has been made in the same manner as Pongee kimonos which were popular in the 1920s.
Professionaly hand painted and resist dyed in one of the many specialist workhops in China for export to the fashionable European market.

Condition.
In excellent antique condition with some light marks. Nothing detrimental to the shawl as a whole. The fringing has some tangles which repeated ironing will improve.
