A scarlet Delhi shawl/stole/sash woven from goat hair pashmina and embroidered in India around 1860.
Delhi shawls were originally made as sashes for men, but became enormously popular in Europe in the 1800’s as accessories for woman.
The embroidery reflects stylistic influences from Kashmir and is executed in flows silk worked in satin stitch.
Fully lined in silk, with some historic mends in ground, centre field. Some rubs to edges of embroidery.
