Early Whitework Corded Cutwork Coverlet: ca 1700s English
A corded whitework coverlet dating from the early 1700’s with cutwork elements.
Originally intended to be mounted and backed onto a contrasting silk or other textile, or perhaps never finished, which may explain the excellent condition of this highly collectable early textile.
The cording is expertly and skilfully done with minute stitching in silk running round the cording to form decorative patterns. Holding this textile up to the light reveals the intricacy and extraordinary details of this quilted coverlet.
In excellent antique condition, some signs of wear to the edges of the textile and very slight discolouration due to age, nothing detrimental to the piece as a whole.
