Ecclesiastical silk brocade alter frontal with gold bullion passementerie: C19th European
A superb rich raspberry pink silk brocade alter frontal or hanging interwoven with gold and silver.
Depicting a central motif of an eagle with chicks in a nest surrounded by rays of light all of which have symbolic meanings: As an eagle stirreth up her nest, flutters over her young, spreads abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings.
On either side of the nest are two decorative flowering branches bearing fruit, large floral motifs and ears of wheat.
The panel is finished with gold bullion braiding and twisted gold fringing. It is interlined and has been fully lined in white satin.
This hanging would work well in most interiors and would make an excellent panel above a window or door.
In excellent clean antique condition with no damage.
