Indonesian Headdress, circa late C19th/early C20th
Regular price £800.00
A large ceremonial headdress from Sumatra, Indonesia. Traditionally worn for ceremonies, dance, theatre and festivals.
Some of the decorative elements of the headdress are mounted on springs (en tremblant) which move with the wearer. This is particularly effective during dance.
The centre of the crown has two embossed peacocks surrounded by hundreds of cut and embossed floral motifs. The larger of these are three dimensional with elements representing stamens and petals. The whole headdress is fixed to a flat band which comfortably fits onto the head.
Measurements: 58cm (W) x 28cm (H) x 7.5cm (D)
