Large Antique Sampler, Asia 19th century
Incorporating European imagery and motifs but hand embroidered in Asia, probably Turkey in the first half of the 19th century.
The sampler has been worked in warmer more exotic colours than the usual quieter European/English examples.
It has eastern style coffee pots, parrots perch on the roof of a Queen Anne red brick mansion. Turkish style floral motifs abound.
Made and signed by ‘Heri’ who, I’m guessing, was a young woman from a well-to-do fashionable household who had access to European pattern books and influences.
This textile is in very good antique condition.
