Long Arts & Crafts Embroidered Panel with Birds: Late C19th early C20th England
Nearly 3.5m of Arts and Crafts Jacobean revival silk embroidery with birds.
Hand worked during the latter half of the 19th century in silks onto a loose weave cotton canvas ground.
This was probably made as a bed Pelmet or bed hanging and is in such good condition it may never have even used, or used for a very short time.
Worked using soft muted colours including cinnamon which contrasts beautifully with the pale blues and touches of green.
The birds all have strong outlines and they stand out against the background which has a repeating pattern of flowers interspersed with arabesque motifs.
This long panel would make a wonderful pelmet or border to a curtain.
344cm long x 24cm high
In excellent antique condition with no damage that we have found, some signs of age/generalised darkening to exposed ground material, but embroidery itself in very good condition.
