Ottoman Silk Embroidered Brocade Panel Early C19th
From the Ottoman Empire, a rare, un-tailored panel of hand embroidered silver-gilt metal thread brocade.
Dating from the first half of the 19th century, the work is extremely fine. Originally made to be cut and fashioned into an entari woman’s robe.
Worked in natural coloured silks in an extremely fine chain stitch with a repeating pattern of floral motifs emerging from silver gilt thread stems.
The panel has been backed in a biscuit colour silk and has a narrow brown velvet border.
it is in very good antique condition with an overall patina of age and some light foxing marks. There’s is a seam 14cm from the bottom edge where two panels have been joined together.
