Painted paper and lacquered bamboo parasol: Japan 1910/20
Beautiful in its simplicity, as only the Japanese know how, this parasol is made from handmade paper with cut out and appliquéd painted paper inserts which, when the light shines though the coloured areas, gives a stained-glass window effect.
The parasol struts and handle are made from fine lacquered bamboo.
This parasol has a quiet elegance and would work well as set dressing, or room decor, or a prop for film or television.
the condition is very good, with a couple of small tears on the paper edge which could easily be repaired.
Length when closed: 82cm
Across parasol when open: 82cm
