Qing Dynasty Embroidered Chinese robe: C19th China
An embroidered Qing dynasty Chinese robe with museum quality embroidery.
Hand worked in China during the 19th century on a black silk satin ground with roundels containing scholars rocks from which emerge flowering trees of life, the whole are surrounded with decorative ears of wheat.
The bottom of the coat has deep embroidered borders with stylised traditional representations of land and sea scape, again with scholar rocks and floral motifs.
The robe is edged with triple bands of black satin binding borders.
This robe is for study or for room decor, the silk satin on the shoulders has thinned and is shattered. It has been conserved but is fragile. There are some smaller areas of wear to the surface of the silk satin but the bottom of the coat is in excellent condition. The original turquoise silk lining has come away along the hem lines.
