Reversible Red Silk Velvet and Lamé Opera cape: C1920s France
Dating from the 1920s Art Deco period comes this wonderful reversible ruby red silk velvet opera cape.
Made is France, it’s a stunning piece and has a tulip shaped silhouette with decorative embroidery running around the lower section on the velvet side.
The lamé is particularly stunning and has a swirling pattern with a milieu of colours which works particularly well in contrast to the velvet.
The cape is being sold as a study piece as the velvet is extremely fragile and brittle which is result of the passage of time. These are some losses to the velvet, particularly around the back of the collar around the neck. The lamé side is in excellent antique condition with an overall patina of age as you would expect in an item of this antiquity.
It would be a great example for a collection, as part of a display or to be copied for film or television.
