Traditional Nathdurata Shrinathji Painted Textile Wall Hanging C19th
From Nathdwara, Western Rajasthan, a Srinathji devotional Hindu painting on cloth of Krishna manifested as a seven-year-old-child.
Painted onto a vibrant orange cotton ground by an artisan from the traditional school of artists based in Nathdwara a town in the Rajsamand district of Rajasthan at some time during the first half of the 20th century.
A bright and vibrant textile hanging that would work well in most interiors.
The painting has been backed at a later date with a traditional Rajasthani tie dyed cotton textile which could easily be replaced by something more sympathetic to the piece.
The condition is excellent, with some minor rubs and losses to the surface of the painted areas, and a couple of small marks, nothing that is detrimental to the textile as a whole.
