Antique 18th Century Silk Brocade Costume: C19th Europe
Item Details.
We are unsure where this originated but it has a strong Spanish feel.
We think it’s a copy of a traditional costume from somewhere in Europe and would be delighted if someone out there could point us in the right direction.
This looks like it’s been made in the 19th century using an 18th century pattern. Made in a stunning yellow and lilac floral silk brocade.
The full skirt has tiny even gathers which fasten onto the waistband to give the shape of painniers on the hips. The bodice has front fastenings and a shawl shaped lace collar.
The skirt has a beautiful integral black lace apron which matches the collar. Both are decorated with tiny sequins which catch the light when you move.

The condition is good for items from this era. They have obviously been stored away and kept carefully. There is a hole in the petticoat near the hem and a stain on the decorative edging lace on one sleeve, this could be removed and washed.
