Dating from the late 17th century an unusual and trade embroidered vestment front.

Possibly from Mexico and made for the Catholic Church , embroiderd in silks and gilt wrapped thread onto a buttermilk silk grosgrain ground.

Decorative elements include wonderful parrots, carnations, bows and orchids growing from pots.

The textile is in good condition considering its great antiquity. There’s some historic conservation work to tge silk ground which, as a textile conservator i really appreciate.

A 19th century gold gilt braid has been added to tge outer edges at a later date.

This vestment fragment would benefit from being stretched and mounted. Please contact our studio for details.
