Antique Embroidered Wallhanging with Dancing Figure: C1910 France
A rare antique tambour embroidered wallhanging featuring a French-style decorative design based on 'Les Douze Mois Grotesques' circa 1726, after designs by Claude Audran Le Jeune, Antoine Watteau AND Alexandra-François Desporte.
Each month woven with the sign of the Zodiac and the corresponding deity.
Originally designed for the apartments of the Dauphin - later Louis XV.
This wallhanging depicts a central female figure playing a tambourine, surrounded by flora, fauna (birds and butterflies), and decorative architectural elements.
With elaborate decoration and incredible, this stunning wallhanging would look lovely hanging on a long wall.
Hand worked in tambour stitching which gives the embroidery texture and depth.
We think this was made in France but are unsure, it’s definately European.
