Antique Ottoman Cutwork Leather and Emerald Green Silk Velvet Bag: C19th Turkey

This is an extraordinary find - from Istanbul and dating from the late 19th century a wonderful gilt embroidered silk velvet and cutwork green leather bag.

The front of the bag has been made in a wonderful emerald green silk velvet and is covered with traditional Ottoman silver gilt embroidered decoration. The press stud fastening has the emblem of Istanbul on it.

Beautifully designed and made it has a main internal pocket with the flap decorated with cutwork leather.

There is a mirror hidden inside the main bag flap to enable the owner to cast a discreet eye over their appearance.

There are two slots on the bags reverse where there was probably once a leather strap.

Condition: Excellent
The bag has an overall patina of age, some rubs and losses to the corners and edges. Some darkening of the velvet on the front of the bag, but overall in excellent antique condition.
