Arts and Crafts Embroidered Japanoise Bamboo Embroidered Screen: C1900 Europe

This handmade (&signed) bamboo trifold screen dates from the Arts and Crafts era and is the sort of item that was imported and sold by Liberty of London throughout the late 18th and into the 20th centuries.

We bought the screen as a frame and found the hand painted and embroidered screen panels at a later date. We then married the two together to make what you see today. Each panel is backed in a high quality Italian linen.

Japanoise style was hugely popular at this time as travel became easier and the world opened up. Everyone wanted a taste of the East in their interiors and Liberty’s provided it for them.

In excellent antique condition and professionally hand made in out textile conservation studios with great care and minute attention to detail. All antique materials used are from our own textile collection.
