Aubergine Silk Velvet Riding Jacket: C19th English

This is such a beautiful colour, a rich dark plum or aubergine, silk velvet which is very fine weight, unlike modern velvets of today.

Fully lined throughout in a softbrown cotton, it has an open ‘tail’ at the back to allow for a bustle and movement when riding.

The jacket would originally have fastened with a button on one shoulder (now missing).

Measurements:

32-34 inch bust

24 inch waist 

Nape neck to hem 19 inches 

Condition: There were some minor splits and tears along seams and joins which we have carefully repaired in our dedicated textile conservation studio. The velvet shows signs of wear and has some rubs and losses in places particularly around the edges of the cuffs, hem and collar.
