Item Details.
Entirely hand stitched, this amazing survivor of times past, this fancy dress costume dating from 1869 - 1876.

Made for a small child this magenta pink satin bodice and skirt with pale grey (powdered) mohair wig, intended to suggest an 18th century costume.

This would have been made to order, most probably for a child from a wealthy family.
At this time lavish costume parties and balls were held and people spent a lot of money on their outfits which were commissioned from professional dressmakers.

The bodice is constructed in exactly the same way as an adults and has a pretty double row of mother of pearl buttons in claw stettings.

Condition.
The condition of the costume is good for antique clothing from this era. A couple of buttons are missing, the lace has a dark patina with dark areas (which we like, but it could be removed and cleaned). The boning which holding the bustle in place are misshapen. Some rubs and losses to edges of garments.
