Dating from the 17th century this Indo-Portuguese silk embroidered panel bed hanging or pelmet.
Hand embroidered in India for the Portuguese market it is covered with arabesques, carnations and grapes and has a charming rustic naïvety.
Worked onto a hand loomed loose weave flax(?) ground using vegetable dyed floss silks.
It was made originally by joining two narrow weave panels together.

105cm wide x 53cm high
Taking this textiles age into consideration the condition is very good. Some of the silk embroidery has rubs and losses which is to be expected in textiles of this sort of antiquity.
