Fine Silk Brocade Shawl Burnt Orange and Green: C19th Europe

Item Details.
A beautiful shawl from the Victorian era, in a striking striped design with lines of intricately woven brocaded patterns in golden yellow, green, electric blue and black.

Hand woven in silk and a very fine wool this shawl dates from the mid to late 19th century and is a very generous size in order to accommodate the full hooped crinoline skirts that were fashionable at this time.

We are not sure where this shawl originates but think it is probably French. It is finished with a lovely twisted black and white fringe.

Condition.
In excellent condition, with a couple of small historic mends. Nothing that shows or that is detrimental to the piece as a whole.
