Gilt Thread on Velvet Embroidered Tree of Life panel: C19th Syria

An expertly worked old gold embroidered tree of life with birds on a black cotton velvet ground.

Dating from the late 19th century and hand worked in Syria this is a good example of traditional gilt-work embroidery from this region. Hand embroidered over card in a basket type stitch which gives a raised stumpwork effect.

In very good overall antique condition with some discolouration/tarnish as you would expect in a textile of this antiquity.
