Queen Anne Silk Embroidered Appliqué Panel with Figures: C17th European

A charmingly naïve early silk and gilt work embroidery with floral motifs forming a wreath around a central depiction of two female figures, a visitation scene of Mary & her cousin Elizabeth.

Depicted are beautifully depicted stylised flowers  including daffodils, pansies, and tulips.

Worked onto a black silk satin with a central quatrefoil shape in cream silk taffeta.

Hand worked in softly coloured silks and with couched gilt embroidery, this is such a delightful piece.

The condition is good for considering the antiquity of this embroidery, it has and overall patina of age and some slight discolouration to the cream silk, rubs and losses to the surface of the silk embroidery, loose threads all things that you would expect in an antique textile.

The embroidery has been previously mounted rather crudely and presented in a gilt frame which has some losses. It would greatly benefit from being professionally stretched and mounted and reframed in a manner that would preserve it better for the future.
