Pair of Museum Quality Italian Embroideries with Flowers and Insects Framed: C18th Italy
A pair of (unused) embroideries, originally destined to dress Santos in a high church, which arrived still in their original wrapping papers, these detailed and quite exquisite embroideries are some of the best examples of silk embroidery that we have had in our collection.
The finely worked silk flowers, worked in split stitch, have wonderfully detailed butterflies, caterpillars and spiders amongst beautifully depicted leaves and blooms. With centre of the flowers worked in gilt embroidery and decorated with spangles and jewels, as are the decorative borders.
In good antique condition with some light marks to the silk satin ground, as you would expect in a delicate textile of this antiquity.
The embroideries have been professionally stretched and mounted onto lined and interlined conservation grade board. They are bespoke framed and ready to hang.
