Decorative Raffia Embroidered Cloche Hat: C1920 France

From the 1920s an original cloche hat with raffia embroidered floral motifs and details picked out in iridescent beading.

Cloche or scull caps were worn by all woman of fashion during the 1920s era. During the day a heavier felt cloche would be worn, then in the evening lighter more decorative hats were de rigour.

This has has been made using a black net ground onto which floral motifs in raffia have been embroidered with leaves and stems worked in purple iridescent beading. The cap is finished with a row of metal thread wrapped beads to frame the face.
