Traditional Ottoman Woman’s Brocaded Jacket: C19th Turkey
Item Details.
From 19th Century Ottoman Turkey comes this cotton brocade woman’s jacket. Woven in pretty stripes with floral motifs it’s feminine and unmistakably Ottoman in design.
This is the type of lightweight jacket that would have been worn over a gauze blouse and may have then had a decorative waistcoat or long coat worn over the top. Harem pants and decorative slippers would have been worn to complete the look.
The sleeves are seamed to the elbow which allows them to hang decoratively open. All the jackets openings, down the centre front and on the sleeves have decorative hand made textile buttons with loop fastenings.
