Antique Copperplate Engraving Venice Grand Tour L’Hyver: C18th France

Item Details.
A very fine museum worthy copperplate engraving with a superb image of a woman in superb 18th century costume.

She is wearing a tricorn hat with a large rosette, a fitted bodice and stomacher. A shawl is wrapped around her shoulders and she has what looks like a fur muff on one arm.

She is depicted in St Marks Square in Venice with the canal and gondalors in the background which makes me wonder if this was sold to someone on The Grand Tour.

Named L’Hyver (winter) we think it must have been originally part of a set of four copperplate engravings depicting the four seasons.

The detailing is extraordinary and would make a great addition to a collection. It is in a contemporary frame which coukd be replaced with one of the same date as the print.

Condition: Very Good
In good antique condition. An overall patina of age and some losses to edges of paper.
