Item Details.
An unusual late 19th century Victorian Kashmir Paisley shawl with a beautiful Egyptian design.
Following the discovery of the Phaeronic Tombs by Howard Carter a movement was sparked called ‘Egyptomania’ when art, architecture and fashion derived design inspiration from the extraordinary ancient designs and hiroglyphs found there.
Made on a jacquard loom, probably in Norwich, England, when there was a huge boom in the production of these shawls. Copying the tradition of the more expensive handmade shawls from Kashmir.
Measurements.
174 x 172cm
Condition.
The condition is very good for a textile of this age. There are a couple of small areas of wear and small rubs holes as you would expect in an antique textile.
