A panel of quilted Toile de Jouey, possibly from Nantes, France and dating from the first half of the 19th century.

The panel is backed in a hand loomed white linen with a cotton interlining. It has been hand quilted and may have been part of a bed valance.

One edge of the panel is scalloped and it could be added to a plain linen panel to make a pelmet above a window, stretched and mounted or repurposed into wonderful cushions or pillows.

The print is interesting, it depicts ships in full sail, windmills, reclining beauties, picturesque ruins and urns of flowers.

The madder red of the print is still vibrant with some slight fading in the centre.

Measurements: 91  X  77cm
