Antique Arts & Crafts Hand Block Printed Chintz Fragment: C1900 British
Item Details.
A wonderful small size panel of original Arts & Crafts era block printed polished chintz from England and dating from the second half of the 19th century.
Very much in the style of William Morris, this would be a great design for wallpaper or fabric, hand printed in pale olive green and brown onto a cream ground the colours look incredibly modern and would suit todays interiors.
With a fresh floral pattern with curling leaves and ivy interspersed with flowers the design looks simple but on closer inspection is actually quite complicated.
This panel would benefit from being stretched and mounted, a service we specialise in at our dedicated textile conservation studio.

Condition.
In pretty good antique condition with some of the original glaze still discernable. This once lined the inside of a box and is grubby on one side with water and what may have been ink stains marks there are also rusty nail holes where the lining was once attached. We like the look of it in its original state so have not washed or tried to clean it.
All of the items we sell are antique and as such have all the idiosyncrasies of an old and loved textile, so small marks, stains and signs of wear are to be expected and are an inherent part of their history & charm.
