Traditional Decorative Embroidered Folk Costume Apron : C20th Romania

Item Details.
Dating from the early 20th century and handmade in Romania this traditional folk costume apron with tassles.

Handwoven in a complicated weave with gilt lame thread and wool and with mercerised cotton needlepoint embroidery, it combines a combination of techniques.
 
With a fine handwoven geometric pattern and needlepoint embroidered flowers it’s a highly decorative panel.

Edged on either side with wool fringing and finished with long twisted tassles along the bottom edge it woukd have been a highly decorative and important element of a traditional costume.

Era and Usage.
Made in the early 20th century it can be hung as wall decoration and would suit most interiors.

Measurements:

41 x 40cm plus 6cm fringe either side and approx 40cm tassles along bottom.

Condition: Very Good
The apron is in really good condition considering it’s age. All of the textiles we sell are antique and so small flaws, signs of wear and an overall patina of age are to be expected.
