Antique Folk Art Crazy Patchwork Quilt: C19th America

Another extraordinary and quirky handmade silk and silk velvet crazy patchwork quilt from our studio collection and dating from the late 1800’s.

Made in rich jewel-like coloured fabrics and silk velvets with decorative embroidery.

Patchworks such as this fine example are the originators of recycling at its best, using tiny scraps and found pieces this quilt includes dress fabrics and velvets.

Possibly made by a mother for her daughters trousseau, no doubt some of the fabrics used would have been recognisable as part of some dresses etc.

This is folk art and deserves to be displayed on a wall. You would never get tired of looking at it there is so much detail and interest.

Measurements:
149 x 98cm

Condition.
The quilt is in good antique condition with some rubs and losses to the surface of some of the velvets, losses and shredding to some of the thinner dress skills. These could easily be replaced and or repaired. The quilt would also benefit from a border as it doesn’t have one.
All of the textiles we sell are genuine antiques and may have some the idiosyncrasies and small flaws that you would expect in an antique textile.
