A stunning handmade antique wool penny rug table runner, or wallhanging styled with intricate, overlapping floral medallions.

It was crafted using traditional "penny rug" folk art methods, which involve layering wool or felt shapes and securing them with decorative embroidery stitching (typically blanket stitches, French knots, and starburst accents) onto a rustic linen ground cloth.

It features a vibrant color palette consisting of deep reds, burgundies, blacks, and shimmering gold tones, arranged into highly detailed concentric geometric rosettes.

While reminiscent of traditional Central Asian Suzani floral textiles or Scandinavian Klackmattor (heel rugs), this particular construction style is heavily rooted in North American fiber arts and home quilting communities.

Measurements:
70cm wide x 170cm long

Condition:
Good antique condition with some damage & losses to some of the ‘pennies’. we have dyed and replaced any missing pieces at our professional conservation studio.
