Antique Gilt Embroidered & Appliquéd Ecclesiastical Pelmet: C19th France

The most extraordinary and sumptuous gold embroidered ecclesiastical pelmet dating from the early 19th century, France.
Hand worked onto a silver lurex with real gold thread this must have looked stunning in the candle light and atmosphere of a church.
With claret red appliquéd silk velvet crosses and central motif with star bursts which have been and studded with glass ‘jewels’,this must have been made for a church of some importance.
The pelmet has been finished along the bottom edge with a glorious handmade fringe made from twisted silks and gilt metal thread coils.
It is backed in a soft linen and there is a length of cotton tape running along the top edge to which small brass rings have been stitched. This is all original to the piece.

Condition.
Taking this textiles age into consideration the condition is pretty good. Some of the silk embroidery has rubs and losses which is to be expected in textiles of this sort of antiquity. The backing linen is grubby. Everything is original.
