Antique Hand Block Printed Palampore Mezzaro Panels: C19th Italy

A very rare find, a pair of hand block-printed panels dating from the late 18th early 19th century.

In the style of early Palampores, these have probably be taken from a large Tree of Life hanging and would have once been part of the border area.

Block printed in vegetable dyes onto a very fine light weight hand loomed cotton.

These panels would benefit by being stretched and mounted, a service we are pleased to be able to offer from our dedicated textile conservation studio in the Cotswolds. Please ask us for details.

Measurements: 37.5 x 24.5cm

Condition:

In antique condition with an overall patina of age and some foxing marks, a few small splits and holes which we can repair to museum standard. please ask us for details of textile conservation work.
