A gorgeous pichhwai hand painted wall hanging from India and dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
These paintings are known as pichhwai or pichhavi and were made to hang in temples. The purpose was to narrate tales of Krishna to people who could not read.
This hanging is large in size and has been hand painted onto a very fine cotton cloth, it depicts a festival procession with dancers and elephants etc. It’s worked in a beautiful muted colour palette which would suit most interior settings.

Condition.
It good antique condition, with an overall patina of age some losses and rubs to surface paint.
