This is a very unusual and fine museum worthy quilted Toile de Jouy pelmet dating from the 18th century, France.
Handmade into a large size pelmet or wall hanging, it has been backed in hand loomed linen, correct to the period of this piece.
Made in the 1700s.
This is a stunning quilted pelmet that is an antique French Beautrican toile.
Rare to find this complete of a repeat of this wonderful toile! The pastoral toile on this wonderful textile is called "L' Heuruse Famille ou Dits merci" ( the happy family known as Merci).
Printed by Jean-Pierre Meillier et Cie in Beautriran c1790s . It depicts scenes of 18th century happy family life and was inspired by a painting by Jean-Babtiste Grueze ( 1725-1805).
The toile has complete repeats and has been constructed by hand stitching two widths of the wonderful toile together.
The pelmet would have been used as part of a bed set and is backed in a finely hand woven linen, contemporary to the piece.
This panel would make a beautiful wall hanging, bedding textile, for study or is an ideal for any collection.
In very good, usable condition, would look lovely across a window.

In very good useable condition for a textile of this date an overall patina of age
with some marks and foxing to the lining. There’s two light yellow marks or stains to toile which we have not laundered. We believe these would come out with gentle cleaning.
