A superb long Toile de Nantes pelmet with a print called ‘Chariot of Dawn’, a beautiful design dating from the 18th century.
The long length of this pelmet means it may have been part of a set of bedhangings.
It would look great above a window, under a shelf or as a wallhanging.
With lots of interesting details including boats, sea monsters, the three graces and a mythical horse drawing the chariot of Dawn, it’s a beautiful and interesting piece.
Backed in a handwoven linen with a cotton binding along the scalloped edge.
Entirely stitched by hand the pelmet is in good condition commensurate with its age. There are some historic mends, a patch and some marks. These all add to the charm and story of the piece.
