Antique Zardozi Embroidered & Stumpwork Heraldic Banner: C19th India
This is a highly decorative antique heraldic banner made in India - possibly for a British family. Boasting a variety of embroidery stitches and techniques including traditional Zardozi gilt thread embroidery and stumpwork.
Stitched onto a white silk satin
ground it has a central depiction of a shield topped by a decorative crown or coronet. This may have been the crest of British aristocrat or could have been made up and presented as a gift to a visiting dignatory.
Would look fabulous as a centrepiece on a cushion or above a fireplace etc.
Dating from the late 19th century.
