An very rare, Jacobean redwork embroidered panel in an oval shape dating the 16th century.
Redwork was popular and is worked in the same style as blackwork, hand embroidered in a single colour onto a white or off white ground.
Probably taken from bed hangings this panel is a lovely example of embroidery from this era.
Measurements: 38cm tall x 30cm wide
Condition:Signs of wear commensurate with age, multiple tears and some discolouration. Red thread has faded to a beautiful pink . At some time this panel has been stuck to an oval of card, possibly to fit an antique frame.
