Ecclesiastical Velvet Panel with Gold Embroidered Stumpwork Dove of Peace: C19th France

Another wonderful find.
Dating from the 19th century this faboulous ecclesiastical panel with a dove of peace emitting rays of light.
The padded stumpwork body of the dove is embroidered with gold gilt coils which have been stitched in consecutive lines over the body and wings giving a wonderful glittering three dimensional effect. The rays coming from the dove have been worked in gilt metal sequins.
The panel is trifoil in shape and is made from a rich deep red velvet stretched over a board. it’s edged in a gold gilt ribbon binding.

Dove: 17.5cm H x 29cm W
Condition.
In overall timeworn condition with surface wear, some conservation to gilt braiding, some missing sequins and a few of the gold coils missing in the birds body. An overall patina of age to whole piece.
