Item Details.
A large and rare panel of very finely embroidered museum quality silk probably made originally as a bedcover or coverlet dating from the early to mid 18th century.

With very fine hand embroidery which reminds me of early mogul floor covers.

The embroidery is of the highest quality and may have been made and presented as a wedding bedcover?

There’s a central motif of a radiating lotus(?) flower with two birds in the centre in the symbolic yin and yang.

The ground is a pale taupe pearl grey silk satin which is strewn with birds, butterflies and meandering floral motifs within a subtle embroidered ‘frame’ with repeating borders. With the corner motifs echoing the central motif.

Measurements.
Length: 171cm
Width: 291cm

Condition.
In good overall condition for a textile of this era. There are some splits here and there to the silk ground but nothing detrimental to the piece as a whole. Some historic mends, some beautiful some amateur but all part of this amazing textiles patina and history. Some ribs to surface, marks and loose threads.
The panel is a large fragment, at some point it has been cut, possibly because it was damaged. We think it’s is around 3/4 of the original size.
