Hand Painted Rococo Silk Dress Panel: C18th China for export

Item Details.
A beautiful and rare hand painted panel of off white silk satin dating from the first half of the 18th century circa 1730s.

Painted in China for the European market this would have once been a panel from a dress with panniers, a Robe á la Français.

The fabric of this type is typically patterned with images from nature and include floral designs and garlands of leaves,

I have only had one or two of this type of dress silk before, they are rare and unique being handpainted.

Measurements.
73 x 121 cm

Condition:
Some marks and and signs of wear as you would expect in a panel from a dress of this antiquity. There’s enough silk here for a good sized panel to be stretched and mounted, a service we can offer from our dedicated textile conservation studio.
