A stunning hand painted Japanese Meji period wall hanging depicting a wintery landscape with pine trees and a river.

This hanging has a beautiful serene tranquility and would suit most interior settings, both contemporary and period.

The painting is highly skilled and has been hand painted onto a medium weight silk. The trees and bushes are velvet, and we don't know if this is a devoré technique or if it has been applied by hand. It lends a beautiful depth and texture to suggest foliage. The velvet areas have then been hand painted with detail……

The painting has been signed (see photo) by the artist and has a silk brocade ‘frame’. It has been backed with a gorgeous block printed cotton which is almost as lovely as the front.

Condition:

In excellent condition for a hand painted textile from this period. It has an overall patina of age as you would expect in a textile of this antiquity.
