A needlework panel dating from the mid 18th century, from Northern Europe, probably France but could be English.
An abundant still life with pomegranates (symbol of fertility) hand embroidered in vegetable dyed wools. Strongly influenced by early Dutch still life paintings.
Probably taken from a tall chair back, it has been married with the hand painted frame at a later date.
In good antique condition with some minor losses to woodwork and an overall patina of age as you would expect in an antique textile of this antiquity.
